Contemporary Fiction

Contemporary Women's Fiction - Spiritual and Inspirational

Present day fiction encompasses spiritual and inspirational philosophies.  To be a contemporary fiction author, one is able to explore divorce and death, friendship and longing, espionage and murder.  Actually none different than yesterday.

Written in present day, of present day, this fiction genre is broad.  However, the new fields within contemporary fiction for women, especally, define the readers search in life.

  • Reincarnation fiction and past life stories.
  • New age fiction.
  • Metaphysical fiction.
  • Psychic fiction.
  • Awakening novels.
  • Healing fiction.
  • Visionary fiction, which we will get back to in a post someday.
  • Lesbian fiction.
  • Mature fiction or women of a certain age fiction.
  • Inspirational fiction.
  • Spirituality fiction or spiritual fiction books, not to be confused with religious romances.
  • And women’s romance fiction, especially subversive romances.

All these categories light up the spectrum of the new search in life for understanding and sharing relevance of our soul, our spirit, our life meaning.

Through fiction of philosophers of old, we were able to consider these life messages.  But we could not share in the story, walk side-by-side with current characters.  Then contemporary fiction awakened.  Bringing fresh light waves through contemporary authors.

It has been said that the story comes from the land.  Could it be, authors awaken with the new story that leads the people, even one at a time who are mesmerized into an openhearted wakefulness to a new life, a spiritual awakening through fiction.

Contemporary fiction.  Nothing is more truthful than fiction.

Contemporary women’s fiction.  Where the edge is honed.  Where women realize one another in all honesty.  Where infidelity, divorce, hanging in there, dementia, cancer, death, teen age children, tenacious elderly parents, friendship, eternal connections of our soul group, and the call of our higher power that we make use of our life now or never, all these come to the page aas a reader’s friend sharing.

These pages and post on Women’s Fiction Blog will explore the books and movies of contemporary life, spirituality, inspiration and acceptance.

I encourage readers to email me with their reviews on favorite books and movies in the genre.  I will be posting.

I love your description of the new fields within contemporary fiction for women, especially Visionary and Metaphysical Fiction. I write Contemporary Women’s Fiction, but it goes beyond that. However, it’s hard to describe in a query letter or a pitch to an agent. The closest I’ve come is Upmarket fiction, but that really doesn’t describe what I write. Visionary is the field I’ve used in the past, but I usually get a blank stare, or the look that says, “That won’t sell.” Thank you for your input. I’d like to hear more, and if you have heard of agents who think as you do. I have a Wordpress blog in the making, but my “active” blog right now is with Blogspot. I see no way to keep in touch except to come back to this page and hope I remember the password I had to come up with to leave this comment.
